Prosecutions Overview

Victorian Racing Tribunal

Michael Katsiris – VRT Hearing 3 November 2022 – GAR83(2), failed to present the greyhound “Replicant” free of the prohibited substances ‘Caffeine’, ‘Theophylline’, ‘Paraxanthine’ and ‘Theobromine’ for an event at Healesville on 18 March 2022. Mr Katsiris pleaded guilty. The VRT imposed a 4-month suspension, wholly suspended for 12 months, and a $500 fine. “Replicant” was disqualified from the event.

John McCallum – VRT Hearing 9 November 2022 – GAR83(2), failed to present the greyhound “Tzar’s Ghost” free of the prohibited substance ‘Sotalol’ for an event at Healesville on 8 April 2022. Mr McCallum pleaded guilty. The VRT imposed a 3-month suspension and a $300 fine. “Tzar’s Ghost” was disqualified from the event.

Glenn Dainton – VRT Appeal 15 November 2022 – GAR123, the greyhound “Dookie Devil” was charged with marring at Sandown on 12 November 2022. Mr Dainton pleaded not guilty. The VRT upheld the appeal and dismissed the charge.

Andrea Dailly – VRT Hearing 16 November 2022 – GAR83(2), GAR86(d) & GAR84A(1), failed to present the greyhound “Radek Bale” free of the prohibited substance ‘Desmopressin’ for an event at Sandown Park on 27 May 2021, made a false and misleading statement in relation to the investigation and failed to maintain treatment records for treatments administered to greyhounds between August 2020 and June 2021. Mrs Dailly pleaded guilty to all charges. The VRT imposed a 3-month suspension, with 2 months suspended for 12 months, and a total fine of $5700, with $1000 suspended for 12 months. “Radek Bale” was disqualified from the event.

Thomas Dailly – VRT Hearing 16 November 2022 – GAR84A(1), failed to maintain treatment records for treatments administered to greyhounds between August 2020 and June 2021. Mr Dailly pleaded guilty to all charges. The VRT imposed a total fine of $4200.

Gerard O’Keeffe – VRT Hearing 23 November 2022 – GAR141(1), failed to present the greyhound “Team Staffing” free of the prohibited substance ‘Procaine’ for an event at Healesville on 15 May 2022. Mr O’Keeffe pleaded guilty. The VRT imposed a 3-month suspension, wholly suspended for 24 months, and a $2000 fine, with $1000 suspended for 24 months. “Team Staffing” was disqualified from the event.

Frank Meyer – VRT Hearing 23 November 2022 – GAR86(f), engaged in the use of contemptuous, unseemly, improper, insulting and offensive conduct towards a Steward at Ballarat on 18 February 2022 and during an inquiry on 27 February 2022, and published contemptuous, unseemly, improper, insulting and offensive language in relation to a Steward to Facebook on 24 February 2022. Mr Meyer pleaded guilty to all charges. The VRT suspended Mr Meyer until 1 April 2023 and imposed a total fine of $450.

Stewards’ Hearing Reports

Kevin Fogarty – Stewards Hearing 3 November 2022 – GAR165(a), On 24 October 2022, Mr Fogarty engaged in conduct that was detrimental and/or prejudicial to the interests of greyhound racing when catching a greyhound at the Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club. Mr Fogarty pleaded guilty. Stewards imposed a $250 fine.

The late Tony Duncan – Stewards Hearing 7 November 2022 – a urine sample collected from “All Inn Velvet” prior to an event at Shepparton on 23 April 2022 was confirmed to contain the prohibited substance ‘Procaine’. Stewards determined that no charges are to be laid pursuant to GAR169(3)(b). “All in Velvet” was disqualified from the event, pursuant to GAR19(3)(t).
