Kennels

Home » Kennels
Introduction To Kenneling (Duration : 0:21s)

This is where you’ll find everything you need to know about making your premises ready for the keeping of greyhounds.  You’ll find out about requirements as to kennel sizes and materials, as well as information about ongoing kennel management, such as cleanliness, disinfection and bedding.  These details are outlined in the Code of Practice, which has been adopted by GRV as the minimum standard.

Before you build any kennels

You will need to make sure that you check with your local council to find out whether you will require any permits.  Permits may be needed for the construction of buildings and sheds, the use of the land and the number of greyhounds you plan to keep.  GRV has a Council Liaison Officer who may be able to assist you with your dealings with Council – contact our Racing Services on (03) 8329 1100.

The State Government of Victoria’s Code of Practice for the Keeping of Racing Greyhounds (Code) provides detailed requirements for the construction and maintenance of facilities, including pen and yard sizes, sleeping areas and fencing requirements. If you require information on kennel facility construction under the Code, please click here.
