Consultation on proposed
A significant public consultation process was conducted by Greyhounds Australasia (GA) prior to the introduction of the simplified and modernised National Rules in 2022.
Feedback provided by key stakeholders during this consultation proposed the introduction of thresholds or screening/residue limits for certain genuine therapeutic medications that were not included in the proposed changes at the time.
The introduction of a threshold or limit for a prohibited substance can only be proposed by GA once an extensive process has been undertaken that requires consultation with specialist groups, targeted research, and study, followed by an extensive risk analysis to ensure that both the welfare of greyhounds and the integrity of the sport are maintained.
Now that this work has been completed, GA have drafted proposed new rules for industry consultation that would:
- introduce a threshold for prednisolone,
- introduce a screening limit for ketaprofen,
- introduce a residue limit for procaine, and
- add four substances to the list of exempted substances.
To support consistent reporting by test laboratories, the limits and thresholds proposed have been internationally harmonised with those in other jurisdictions and codes.

If any of the proposed new or updated rules are progressed further by GA for inclusion in the National Rules, these will need to be considered by the GRV Board.
Participants will be notified should the GRV Board adopt any new or amended National Rules.
