Consultation on proposed
national rules

Home » Rules of Racing » Proposed national rules consultation

A significant public consultation process was conducted by Greyhounds Australasia (GA) prior to the introduction of the simplified and modernised National Rules in 2022.

Feedback provided by key stakeholders during this consultation proposed the introduction of thresholds or screening/residue limits for certain genuine therapeutic medications that were not included in the proposed changes at the time.

The introduction of a threshold or limit for a prohibited substance can only be proposed by GA once an extensive process has been undertaken that requires consultation with specialist groups, targeted research, and study, followed by an extensive risk analysis to ensure that both the welfare of greyhounds and the integrity of the sport are maintained.

Now that this work has been completed, GA have drafted proposed new rules for industry consultation that would:

  • introduce a threshold for prednisolone,
  • introduce a screening limit for ketaprofen,
  • introduce a residue limit for procaine, and
  • add four substances to the list of exempted substances.

To support consistent reporting by test laboratories, the limits and thresholds proposed have been internationally harmonised with those in other jurisdictions and codes.

Feedback

Feedback on the proposed changes and amendments to the National Rules can be submitted online via the feedback portal here. A feedback form is available or written submissions can be uploaded in either PDF, DOC or DOCX formats.

Alternatively written submissions can be provided via email to the Feedback Office at [email protected].

Please note that GRV may contact you to discuss or clarify any feedback or submission provided.

Important
Dates

  • Tuesday 20 February 2024 (consultation period opens)
  • 8pm Tuesday 5 March 2024 (consultation period closes)

Next
Steps

Following the 2-week consultation period, GRV will review and collate the feedback received from all stakeholders and provide a summary and/or copies of submissions to GA for consideration, and if necessary, make further amendments to the proposed rules.

If any of the proposed new or updated rules are progressed further by GA for inclusion in the National Rules, these will need to be considered by the GRV Board.

Participants will be notified should the GRV Board adopt any new or amended National Rules.
