Prosecutions Overview

Victorian Racing Tribunal

Ronald Fisher – VRT Hearing 4 May 2022 – GAR83(2), failed to present the greyhound “My Mascara” free of the prohibited substances ‘Caffeine’, ‘Theophylline’, ‘Paraxanthine’ and ‘Theobromine’ for an event at Ballarat on 13 September 2021. Mr Fisher pleaded guilty. The VRT imposed a 4-month suspension, wholly suspended for 24 months. “My Mascara” was disqualified from the event.

Jeffrey Guy – VRT Hearing 5 May 2022 – GAR83(2), failed to present the greyhound “Jabba Bolt” free of the prohibited substances ‘Meloxicam’ and ‘Ketoprofen’ for an event at Warrnambool on 23 August 2021. Mr Guy pleaded guilty to both charges. The VRT imposed a 3-month suspension (with one month suspended for 24 months) and a $1500 fine (with $500 suspended for 24 months) on each charge, to be served concurrently. “Jabba Bolt” was disqualified from the event.

Robert Hodgson – VRT Hearing 6 May 2022 – GAR83(1A) & GAR83(2), failed to present the greyhound “Kraken Courage” free of, and allowed the administration of, the prohibited substance ‘Cobalt’ for an event at Shepparton on 29 April 2021. Mr Hodgson pleaded guilty to both charges. The VRT imposed a 12-month suspension (with 10 months suspended for 12 months) on each charge, to be served concurrently. “Kraken Courage” was disqualified from the event.

Thomas Murray – VRT Hearing 6 May 2022 – GAR83(1A) & GAR83A, administered the prohibited substance ‘Cobalt’ to the greyhound “Kraken Courage” prior to an event at Shepparton on 29 April 2021, and administered injectable treatments, namely ‘Traumeel’ and ‘V.A.M.’ to “Kraken Courage” on the day prior to events at Ballarat and Shepparton on 19 April 2021 and 29 April 2021, respectively. Mr Murray pleaded not guilty to all charges. The VRT found Mr Murray guilty of all charges and imposed a total suspension period of 18 months, with a further 13 months suspended for 24 months.

Joseph Sultana – VRT Hearing 10 May 2022 – GAR83(2) & GAR84A, failed to present the greyhound “Panadero Grace” free of the prohibited substances ‘Morphine’, ‘Codeine’, ‘Oripavine’, and ‘Thebaine’ for an event at Cranbourne on 2 August 2021, and failed to maintain Treatment Records for the greyhound. Mr Sultana pleaded not guilty to both charges. The VRT found Mr Sultana guilty of both charges and imposed a 12-month disqualification and a $300 fine. “Panadero Grace” was disqualified from the event. This matter was appealed to VCAT and is awaiting outcome.

Ricky Coleman – VRT Hearing 13 May 2022 – GAR86(f)(iv), engaged in the use of improper, insulting and/or offensive language towards a person having official duties in regard to greyhound racing, being the Parade Official, at Geelong on 26 October 2021. The VRT found Mr Coleman guilty of the charge and imposed a 3-month suspension and a $1500 fine, with $500 suspended for 24 months. This matter was appealed to VCAT and is awaiting outcome.

Rowan Wagenaar – VRT Appeal 26 May 2022 – GAR124, the greyhound “Yield” was charged with failing to pursue at Sandown on 22 May 2022. Mr Wagenaar pleaded not guilty. The VRT dismissed the appeal.

Daniel Gibbons – VRT Hearing 26 May 2022 – GAR83(1A) & GAR83(2), failed to present the greyhound “Agnet Bale” free of, and administered, the prohibited substance ‘Desmopressin’ for an event at The Meadows on 15 September 2021. Mr Gibbons pleaded guilty to both charges. The VRT imposed a total fine of $2000, with $1000 suspended for 24 months. “Agnet Bale” was disqualified from the event.

Donald Jarvis – VRT Hearing 27 May 2022 – GAR83(1A), GAR83(2) & GAR84A(2), failed to present the greyhounds “Ms. Lucky Leaves” and “Pat’s Me Mum” free of, and administered, the prohibited substance ‘Theobromine’ for events at Healesville and Ballarat on 16 July 2021 and 21 August 2021, respectively. Mr Jarvis pleaded guilty to all charges. The VRT imposed a 6-month suspension, with 4 months suspended for 24 months, on each administration charge and a 2-month suspension on each presentation charge, in addition to $300 fine, with $150 suspended for 24 months, for failing to record sufficient details in treatment records. The VRT directed that all penalties are to be served concurrently. “Ms. Lucky Leaves” and “Pat’s Me Mum” were disqualified from the events.
