Prosecutions Overview

Victorian Racing Tribunal

Stephen Lenehan – VRT Hearing 1 March 2022 – LRR42.9(a), LRR42.9(c) & LRR42.6(i)(i), Between 1 August 2017 and 30 January 2020, Mr Lenehan failed to notify GRV within two (2) working days of the deaths of five (5) greyhounds, and failed to dispose of the deceased greyhounds in a manner approved by GRV. Further, Mr Lenehan failed to keep detailed records of the rehoming of a greyhound to a third party. Mr Lenehan pleaded guilty to all charges. The VRT imposed a total fine of $1500.

Jeffrey Guy – VRT Hearing 1 March 2022 – LRR42.9(a), LRR42.9(c) & GAR106(1)(c), Between 1 August 2017 and 30 January 2020, Mr Guy failed to notify GRV within two (2) working days of the deaths of five

(5) greyhounds, and failed to dispose of the deceased greyhounds in a manner approved by GRV. Further, Mr Guy failed to provide kennels of a standard approved by GRV which were adequate in size and kept in clean and sanitary conditions. Mr Guy pleaded guilty to all charges. The VRT imposed a total suspension period of 9 months, which was wholly suspended for 24 months, in addition to a $2000 fine.

Guiseppe Girvasi – VRT Hearing 4 March 2022 – GAR83(2), failed to present the greyhound “Natalia Lee” free of the prohibited substance ‘Procaine’ for an event at Warragul on 5 July 2021. Mr Girvasi pleaded guilty. The VRT imposed a $1500 fine, with $500 suspended for 24 months. “Natalia Lee” was disqualified from the event.

Brett Cook – VRT Hearing 8 March 2022 – GAR86(o), On 18 October 2021, Mr Cook engaged in aggressive and abusive behaviour towards Investigative Stewards upon a request to produce proof of COVID-19 vaccination, which, in the opinion of the Stewards, was improper and constituted misconduct. Mr Cook pleaded guilty. The VRT imposed a 3-month disqualification and a $1000 fine.

Craig Trickett – VRT Hearing 17 March 2022 – GAR86(u), GAR86(o), GAR86(d) & GAR86(p), Between 1 January 2018 and 21 April 2020, Mr Trickett failed to register 20 public syndicates in accordance with the Rules of Racing and managed the syndicates in a manner which was dishonest, corrupt, and/or constitutes misconduct. Further, Mr Trickett made false and misleading statements during an inquiry and failed to comply with four (4) lawful Orders made by Investigative Stewards. Charge 10 was withdrawn by GRV. Mr Trickett pleaded guilty to all remaining charges. The VRT imposed a total disqualification period of 5 years, with 2 years suspended for 5 years.

Tim Hore – VRT Hearing 23 March 2022 – LRR42.9(a), LRR42.9(c) & GAR105(4)(i), Between January 2020 and December 2020, Mr Hore failed to notify GRV within two (2) working days of the deaths of four (4) greyhounds, and failed to dispose of the deceased greyhounds in a manner approved by GRV. Further, Mr Hore failed to notify GRV within 3 working days of three (3) greyhounds leaving his care and custody between May 2020 and October 2020. Mr Hore pleaded guilty to all charges. The VRT imposed a total suspension period of 9 months, which was wholly suspended for 24 months, in addition to a $1500 fine.

Peter Dunlevey – VRT Hearing 23 March 2022 – GAR105(4)(i), Between February 2019 and May 2020, Mr Dunlevey failed to notify GRV within 3 working days of seven (7) greyhounds leaving his care and custody. Mr Dunlevey pleaded guilty to all charges. The VRT imposed a total suspension period of 3 months, which was wholly suspended for 12 months, in addition to a $1500 fine.

Wayne Gray – VRT Appeal 24 March 2022 – GAR69(1), the greyhound “Night To Burn” was charged with marring at The Meadows on 19 March 2022. Mr Gray pleaded not guilty. The VRT dismissed the appeal.

Constance McMillan – VRT Hearing 25 March 2022 – GAR83(2), failed to present the greyhound “Tinker China” free of the prohibited substances ‘Guaifenesin’, ‘Procaine’, ‘Lignocaine’ and ‘3- Hydroxylignocaine’ for an event at Cranbourne on 5 April 2021. Ms McMillan pleaded guilty to all charges. The VRT imposed a total fine of $1500, with $500 suspended for 24 months. “Tinker China” was disqualified from the event.

Peter Grice – VRT Hearing 25 March 2022 – GAR83(2) & GAR84A, failed to present the greyhound “Fleet Feet Pete” free of the prohibited substance ‘Theobromine’ for an event at Warragul on 14 September 2021. Mr Grice failed to attend the hearing. The VRT imposed a 3-month suspension, with 2 months suspended for 36 months. A $750 fine was imposed in relation to Mr Grice’s failure to maintain treatment records, with $250 suspended for 36 months. “Fleet Feet Pete” was disqualified from the event.

Andrew Wood – VRT Hearing 25 March 2022 – LRR42.9(a) & LRR42.6(i)(i), Between 2019 and 2020, Mr Wood failed to notify GRV of the deaths of four (4) greyhounds within two (2) working days. Further, Mr Wood failed to keep detailed records of the rehoming of three (3) greyhounds. Mr Wood pleaded guilty to all charges. The VRT imposed a total suspension period of 6 months, which was wholly suspended for 24 months, in addition to a $1000 fine.

Lorraine Cookson – VRT Hearing 28 March 2022 – GAR86(d), GAR86(o) & GAR86(ae)(ii), On 26 May 2021, Mrs Cookson was found in possession of four (4) devices capable of inflicting undue suffering on a greyhound, and attempted to hide a device from Investigative Stewards to prevent its discovery, which, in the opinion of the Stewards, constitutes misconduct. Further, Mrs Cookson made false and misleading statements to Investigative Stewards during an investigation. Mrs Cookson pleaded guilty to all charges. The VRT imposed a total suspension period of 9 months, which was wholly suspended for 12 months, in addition to a $1000 fine.

Arend Gringhuis – VRT Hearing 29 March 2022 – GAR83(2), failed to present the greyhound “Eilish’s Dream” free of the prohibited substances ‘Pholcodine’ and ‘Morphine’ for an event at Healesville on 28 May 2021. Mr Gringhuis pleaded guilty. The VRT imposed a 3-month suspension, wholly suspended for 24 months. “Eilish’s Dream” was disqualified from the event.

Neville Wakefield – VRT Hearing 30 March 2022 – GAR83(2), failed to present the greyhounds “Ultimate Mayhem” and “Security Man” free of the prohibited substance ‘Salbutamol’ for events at Warragul on 19 February 2021, 16 July 2021, 27 July 2021 and 10 August 2021, and an event at Sale on 22 August 2021. Mr Wakefield pleaded guilty to five (5) charges. The VRT imposed a 6-month suspension on each charge, wholly suspended for 12 months and to be served concurrently. “Ultimate Mayhem” and “Security Man” were disqualified from the events.

Stewards’ Hearing Reports

Adele Powell – Stewards Hearing 11 March 2022 – GAR86(q), On 24 February 2022, Ms Powell engaged in conduct that was detrimental and/or prejudicial to the interests and image of greyhound racing during kennelling at the Shepparton Greyhound Racing Club. Ms Powell pleaded guilty. Stewards imposed a $500 fine, with $250 suspended for 12 months.

Jonathon Gaut – Stewards Hearing 24 March 2022 – GAR86(q), On 22 March 2022, Mr Gaut engaged in conduct that was detrimental and/or prejudicial to the image of greyhound racing when he used inappropriate language in the catching pen area at the Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club. Mr Gaut pleaded guilty. Stewards imposed a $250 fine.
