WHEN it comes to the feeding, medication and use of supplements involving your greyhound it is vital to follow the guidelines set out to achieve best practise.
These guidelines are outlined on the Greyhound Care and Standards website via: http://bit.ly/2axFYZ6.
Great care and vigilance must be taken when feeding your greyhound to ensure they are free of prohibited substances.
Certain foods should be avoided, such as meat that would be unfit for a human to consume.
Participants are encouraged to feed their greyhounds ‘cleaner’ meat i.e. chicken or kangaroo, or dry food.
There are also various other foods which GRV advises against, and further detail about these can be found on the websites listed above.
GRV also encourages participants to take great care when identifying ‘health’ products to give their greyhound during preparation for racing.
It is the responsibility of the participant to consider the use of any product, and GRV accepts no accountability for information conveyed via advertisements appearing in any publication.
In addition, it is also assumed that participants will keep up to date records of vet checks and visits, and ensure their greyhound is treated only with medications prescribed by a qualified veterinarian.
Prohibited substance withholding guidelines have been produced by Greyhounds Australasia for a number of genuine therapeutic substances, and are available on their website www.galtd.org.au
Participants are encouraged to be mindful of using non-veterinary, human and over-the-counter products that can carry the risk of offending under the relevant rules of greyhound racing.
Occasionally, GRV Integrity Department will release important information regarding new policies, guidelines, and any other ‘steward’ related matters.
Information can also be found on FastTrack under the ‘stewards’ tab and then select ‘General Alerts.’
Participants are encouraged to review GRV’s General alerts to ensure they are up to speed with changes to rules.
